Tennis Club serves up some action

The Past Students Tennis Association 'John Hill Tournament' was held at the School on April 13, despite the bad weather. Club Members Alan Lewis and Malcolm McCandish were winners of the 'B' doubles section.

Our Cocktail party was held on June 29 at the lovely home of Ian and Margaret Long.

This function was promoted as a reunion of past and present players and it was an enjoyable evening featuring superb catering. The Tennis Club wishes to thank Margaret and Ian for making their home available.

The Club conducted a mail out to School leavers for the 1971 to 1980 period inviting inquiries for membership to the Club. So far the response has been encouraging resulting in a number of new members.

The Club is sad to report the demise of Ken McDiarmid one of the original members of the Club over forty years ago. Ken was a past President and Life member of the Club and throughout his membership played an active role in the running of the Club.

The Club donated twenty four Sportsmanship Trophies to the School tennis teams as well as trophies for the Senior and Junior School champions. The awards were presented by our President Colin Simpson.

Our long serving member Don McClean again organized the 'Father and Son' tennis night at Kooyong. The event was an outstanding success with forty seven pairs utilizing twenty one courts participating in the competition. Don was supported by his wife Sue McClean who managed the tournament helped by members of the Club. The Club also supplied the tennis balls.

The overall winners were Sebastian and Peter Woodard who were runners up last year.

Section winners were : Year 4 John and Paul Meadows; Year 5 Sebastian and Peter Woodard; Year 4 David and Chris Holland; Year 6 Marcus and Rick Matear.

Trophies were presented by the Junior School Head Master Mr. Guy Mason.
