2004 proved to be a very successful one for the Scotch College Cross Country team.
Even though we couldn’t make it five APS premierships in a row, the season was rich with fine performances. Luke Stokes and Eric Coleman were elected as Captain and Vice Captain respectively and performed admirably all season in their roles. Luke led from the front, placing third or fourth in every APS race, and gained selection in the Victorian All School Cross Country team to compete at the National Championships.
The Under 20 team collected three State medals and was placed third overall in the Victorian All Schools Championships that were held in torrid conditions at Bundoora Park.
Scotch’s Under 14 boys were the strongest APS team and, for the first time in six years, a Scotch athlete was victorious in a junior APS race when Blake Connell won the last race of the season. The rest of the junior team also performed well and the tradition of outstanding Cross Country running at Scotch looks set to continue!

Yr 12 student and Captain of Cross Country for 2004 Luke Stokes has recently been selected in the Athletics Victoria and Victorian Secondary Schools Cross Country Team for 2004.
It has been a great performance by Luke, as his selection was made following his outstanding run in the 2004 Victorian All Schools Cross Country Championships conducted by Athletics Victoria which currently ranks him 5th in the state for the Under 20 age group.
Luke will join the team leaving on 26 August to compete in the 2004 School Sport Australia & Athletics Australia IGA Australian All Schools Cross Country Championships being held in Canberra
over three days. This also includes a component that is used as the basis for selection in following Australian teams.
So here’s hoping that Luke and the rest of the Victorian team can produce “PB” performances and bring home some medals.
