As the first semester drew to a close, the Year seven students in Mr Robert Papuga's class were intent on completing their own silk screen design on a tee-shirt. This activity really captured the imagination of the lads and they spent their class time, as well as lunch breaks, feverishly working to complete their artwork. They certainly had a lot of fun in the process.
The Senior Art Department will be on show at Family Day this year, to give parents a chance to see the changes which have taken place recently.
The single most exciting change, has been the extension and refurbishment of Studio C, into a purpose built ceramics room. The original room has more than doubled in size to allow a more extensive range of activities to be added to the existing program.
Mr Mark Mason, our ceramics specialist, worked closely with the builders, to ensure that the final result would be a superb workshop for the design of pottery and sculpture.
The room has a light airy feeling to it and is finished in soft blue and cream colourings which are very easy on the eye and serviceable in a clay environment. Already the students are responding in a very positive manner to the range of equipment now available and the general atmosphere.
The Art Staff attended the launch of American Visions, the book recently screened on the ABC, written by author Robert Hughes. At the special dinner, Mr Hughes; having found that his computer notes wouldn't print out, gave an off the cuff, warts and all, talk about his involvement in the American art world.
The following day, at a book signing in Carlton, Mr Hughes generously dedicated a copy of his new text to the art students of Scotch College.
