The Inaugural Scotch College Class of 2004 Valedictory Dinner was held at the Grand Hyatt Savoy Ballroom on Monday 18 October. The night was attended by over 550 Year 12 boys and their parents and School staff. The night provided the boys with a wonderful transition from student to Old Boy.
The night commenced with Graham Bradbeer performing the traditional haggis ceremony to the accompaniment of bagpipes played by Tristan Foenander. Tony Glover and Peter Riley guarded the haggis as it weaved its way to the front of the ballroom with Year 12 coordinator
Keiron Jones and School Vice-Captain Ben Kaye.
Comedian Dave Grant then entertained the crowd with his unique humour. He immediately struck a chord with the Year 12 boys and his message was cleverly targeted and colourfully delivered. The Cardinals performed with great distinction and rewarded their enormous ovation with an encore performance. The toasts to staff, students and parents were delivered with a sincerity and warmth that befitted the significance of the occasion. The night climaxed with Ron Anderson leading the Old Scotch Show band in their debut performance, and what a performance it was. Parents were dancing the night away with their friends and even their boys!
Bruce Brown is to be acknowledged for his superb MC duties, as are all involved in the organisation of this new Scotch event.
A new Scotch tradition has been born!
