Junior art excels at auction

Students in Prep and Year Four have created a number of masterpieces during their Art classes. These works were the first of their kind to be auctioned this year, raising a total of $7999 for the Junior School Parents’ Association (JSPA). Each boy helped design and create these works collaboratively.

They were also keen to exhibit the works and see how the community would react. Preps focused on line work, drawing self-portraits, which were artistically set into a frame by Mrs Margie Tissot. Many enthusiastic bidders at the Annual JSPA Dinner Dance keenly sought the two framed works.

Boys in Year 4P and Year 4J experimented with a range of coloured paint, mixed with a modelling medium for their textural patterned canvases.

Year 4M were inspired by Jeff ‘Joffa’ Taylor’s visit and they created a cartoon image of themselves on their combined artwork. Each canvas was for sale through the silent auction process and they were successfully sold on Family Day. These pieces were much in demand and a number of bids were placed before the final deadline.

There has been a great response to the pieces this year, and boys from other year levels are now looking forward to participating in this program in 2006.

These fine artworks were successfully exhibited and marketed by an enthusiastic team of people.

Mrs Gill Brkic and Mrs Jill Kaminsky capably represented the JSPA. Their encouragement and ideas, together with the dedication and support of the Junior School Art Department helped create this innovative program for the boys.
