Letters of appreciation

Scotch has recently received the following letters:

The Anti-Cancer Council

Approximately 500 students participated in the Scotch College Relay for Life, raising in excess of $25,000 for cancer research, education and patient support programs – a sensational result!

Thank you for your support and congratulations on a job well done. You should feel very proud of your achievement.

Light FM

Please be assured that your donation is making a big difference, as we broadcast 24 hours a day, seven days a week to Melbourne. Light FM is truly helping to positively change people’s lives.

The Good Friday Appeal – Royal Children’s Hospital

The Good Friday Appeal was overwhelmed by the generosity of the school community towards the 2000 appeal. The amount donated by students and their families will go to further the great work done at the Royal Children’s Hospital.

Red Cross Calling

Thank you for again supplying callers for the Red Cross Door Knock. As always, the boys were very well behaved and the College can be proud of them.

Frank McGrath

Honorary Organiser, East Malvern District

(Boarders mainly participated in this doorknock, but at least five day boys volunteered.)

Candle Day

Thank you for your interest in Candle Day, the national fundraising day of Amnesty International.

CCF Australia

The depth of your commitment to needy children in the developing world is very much appreciated and respected by our team here at CCF. Your determination to make a real difference in children’s lives is a great encouragement for the children and families whose lives have changed for the better through your sponsorship.

social service

Making a difference to other people's lives

The Social Services program allows students to become involved in other people’s lives. My two placements – a hostel for the elderly and a primary school after-school care facility – allow these boys to share their lives with people outside their social circle – their world.

The two students who visit the elderly are intrigued by this thing called “old age”: the way people's minds and bodies work, and their history. No matter how many times they hear a particular story, they see the difference between then and now. It’s a challenging experience for them.

The two boys who attend the after-school care program play with little kids. For those without younger siblings, this idea of caring for someone smaller, coping with a small amount of hero worship, and the sense of responsibility for someone else is an amazing experience, and makes them think about their role in the world.

The Social Service Program allows the boys not only to experience different worlds and give back to the community, but makes them more aware of their own place in society, and the fact that we are truly a community.
