As Plato once said, “Philosophy is the highest form of music” and in October The Song Company will put his theory into practice in a brilliant new concert ‘Philosophy in Song’, as part of the ScotchArts Visiting Performers’ Series.
Held on Saturday October 24th in the Ian Roach Hall at Scotch College, ‘Philosophy in Song’ presents an eclectic selection of fascinating works, inspired by history’s greatest philosophers and theorists.
“In essence, this concert will delve deep into the greatest philosophical questions of the 21st century, as we move from concepts of wisdom and redemption, God and creation, to our continual search for existential meaning in life,” said Roland Peelman, Artistic Director, The Song Company.
“The program covers hundreds of years of music, from 11th Century’s Hildegard Von Bingen to the more contemporary composer Terry Riley, writing music in the 20th Century.”
A highlight of the concert, Terry Riley’s ‘In C’, is overlaid with sounds of sacred Sanskrit and is best described as a classic minimalist journey into Nirvana – music that is wonderfully transformative and life changing.
