Boat building project 2010

With the start of a new year, the second year of this project, the construction of the boat continues apace. A team of ten eager Sea Scouts have been working hard each Thursday afternoon under the expert eye of Richard Blake, learning the art of boat building and building confidence in their own skills. Recently the centre plate has been installed and the gunwales were laminated and glued into position. The sole floors and deck beams were also laminated and notched into place, while recently the solid plywood floor was laid. With this work completed the laying of the deck can begin.

During the next few months we will be steaming the cockpit combing and the chaffing battens. All works are firmly on track for the launch date of Family Day this October.

The Sea Scouts would like to thank the many members of the Scotch Family who have contributed so much to the success of this project; the Swap Shop for their continuing financial support, Mr. David Baillieu for his kind donation of the masts and red gum chaffing battens, and to anonymous benefactor who generously gave several thousand dollars worth of Huon Pine. This fine timber will be used to plate case and cockpit combings. Once again, many thanks.
