Hockey: The Montgomery Club

The Montgomery Club was formed in 2005 to support Hockey at Scotch. Its name recognises Bob Montgomery who in 1922 donated funds for the formation of the Montgomery Sports Field.

The objectives of the Club are:

  • to support, promote and raise the profile of hockey at Scotch;
  • to support the administration and coaching staff of hockey at Scotch;
  • to encourage all members of hockey teams to achieve their full potential both individually and collectively;
  • to provide a forum for, and to organise functions to bring together, all of the Scotch hockey community; and
  • to raise money for the above objectives and purposes by such methods as the Club thinks fit.

Welcome Barbecue: At the beginning of the season we hold a barbecue particularly aimed at welcoming new players and their families. We encourage the parents to watch their sons play, stay to support the Scotch 1sts match and meet other hockey families across all Year Levels. The Club will also hold informal welcome drinks to introduce the staff and coaches to the parents.

Awards night: The Club helps organise the annual Awards evening. Family and friends listen to the boys wrap up the season, present recognition awards, and raffle prizes over dinner.

Tours: A Hockey development squad of around 20 boys toured New Zealand in 2003 and 2007, India in 2005 and a tour to Argentina was undertaken in 2009. In 2012 the boys travelled to Perth and hosted teams from Auckland Grammar School. Scotch has hosted international tours from Canada, England and New Zealand as well as Interstate teams. The Club helps with billeting and sup- porting coaches and teachers in the organisation of these tour events.

Come to your son’s hockey games on Saturdays and meet other Hockey families. It’s more fun than just dropping him off. Help out at one of the major events. We always need photographers, raffle prize organisers, table decorators, ticket sellers. Come to meetings: Club meetings are held in the evening at a home close to Scotch over wine and cheese and provide the opportunity to contribute your ideas for Scotch Hockey. Anyone is welcome to attend Club meetings – you do not have to be on the committee to attend.
