Junior School Staff

Junior School Start

New Junior School Staff Gareth Smith comes to Scotch after having been at Haileybury College, Berwick Campus, for the last four years. During that time he taught Grade 6.

He thoroughly enjoys teaching Year 6 and providing leadership opportunities for the boys, while assisting them in their transition to Secondary School.

Gareth is looking forward to the challenge of teaching at Scotch and to joining the warm, friendly community of the Junior School.

He is married to Annette and they have two children, Monique, 2 and Rhys, 1.

Rebekah Harvey comes to us from King’s School, a private boys school, in Auckland, New Zealand. She has a Diploma of Teaching and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Auckland.

She taught all levels of Junior Primary while at King’s; three years teaching Preps, two years in Year One and last year in Year Two.

Teaching at all levels has given her a broader appreciation of the educational development of young boys. While at King’s last year, she was chosen to participate in a two week exchange programme with College Junior School. This year, we are fortunate enough to have her back here with us teaching in the Prep Unit.

Pennie Lord has joined our Junior School to be one of two new Prep teachers. Pennie completed a Bachelor of Education with Honours at the Victorian University of Technology. Prior to starting at Scotch, Pennie spent twelve months at the Dragon School in Oxford, England. More recently, Pennie was a Prep teacher, Physical Education teacher and Boarding House mistress at Ballarat Grammar School.

We welcome Pennie to our staff, and are sure that she will be a valuable addition to our School community

Sarah, Tanya and Anna Scotch College welcomes Anna Thompson to the school this year as an integration aide in the Prep classroom. Anna has recently completed her teaching degree in Hobart, while also working part time at the Hutchins School.

Anna’s talents also extend to the running track where she is currently one of Australia’s leading middle distance runners. She has represented Australia in track, cross country and road relay teams and was a National Medallist in the 1500m, 5000m and cross country championships in 2001. Later this year Anna will be representing Australia at the World Championships for cross country in Ireland. We wish her well in her endeavours at Scotch and in her running.

Connie DiNatale graduated as a Primary Teacher in 1981. Since graduating she has also completed further studies whilst she taught full time in various schools. She is a qualified Primary and Early Childhood teacher. Connie has come to us from Korowa A.G.S. where she taught for the past six years. She has attended many inservices on the First Steps Literacy Program and the Early Years Numeracy Project. Connie enjoys relaxing and spending time at the beach with her family.

Sarah Nash will be assisting Ms Alison Hindson in the library for the next few months and she is very excited at the prospect of working at Scotch in the Junior School Library. Sarah graduated from Monash University in September 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, having majored in History (European). She enjoys reading, research and learning.

Andrew Strempel comes to Scotch after being involved in teaching for over twenty years, both in the private and state systems. His last teaching appointment was at Trinity Grammar School where he was a Grade Six Teacher as well as the Music Specialist for the Junior School. His role there also included being involved in the Senior School’s athletics team.

Leaving teaching in 1999, Andrew completed a degree in Christian counselling. During 2001 he was involved in generalist counselling strategies with a local community health network as well as Mount Evelyn Christian Fellowship, which he attends.

He is also involved in the Children’s ministry program at this church. He is married to Jennie who is an occupational therapist and they have three teenage children; Matthew, Rowena and Catherine. He enjoys attempting to keep fit, music, singing and gardening.

Tanya Sutton joins Prep H this year as an Integration Aide. For the past two years she was employed at Strathcona Baptist Girls Grammar School. Tanya has completed a Bachelor of Early Childhood studies and a Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies (Learning Disability stream). This year she will complete her Bachelor of Education (Primary) and commence a Graduate Diploma in Psychology. We welcome Tanya to Scotch College.
