Cricketers miss finals for first time

Donald Parton and James Hare

The season is drawing to a close and unfortunately neither team is playing finals cricket for the first time since 1995.

However the Blues have had a season full of personal highlights, but lost regular players over Christmas and were unable to recover. Ollie Crane started the season in great form with 90 and 72 n.o., but overseas commitments meant he only had three matches. Strong batting contributions from Rob Josephs, Dave Logan and Richard Craven in early games left the Blues in a strong position. John Toward and Andrew Cossar have had good seasons with the ball.

For the Reds poor batting meant that there would be no repeat of last years semi final appointment. Rob Parton and James Parton led the batting with over 200 runs for the season each.

With the ball, Gary Bennett was consistent and Gavin Williams who joined the club after Christmas was excellent. Sam Goldenberg picked up 5/37 against Trinity in the best bowling performance of the season.

The highlight of the season is the Reds vs. Blues match on the main oval at school. The match was moved back to the traditional round before the Christmas break. The Reds batted first and made 6/188 off 40 overs.

Sam Goldberg produced 41 to be the best of the batsmen. A couple of early runouts stalled a steady start for the Blues and it was not long before the Reds were on top.

The Blues only managed 125, to be comprehensively beaten.

Karl Yoemens picked up 4 wickets and Jim Hare added 4 wickets to his 33 n.o. to be Man of the Match. The club would like to thank the school for their on going support.
