The 2007 season was a very challenging one for the Old Scotch Football Club, although at the time of writing the senior team had recorded some outstanding and much-needed wins. A 12-goal defeat of relegation certainty Old Haileybury and an eight-goal win against highly fancied Collegians, followed by a courageous 11-point loss against ladder leaders Old Brighton and a 28-point win against Old Ivanhoe saw us sit precariously in seventh position on the ladder, with six wins and eight losses, and five matches to be played.

The reserves strung three wins together, but injuries across the club significantly depleted our 3rd, 4th and 5th XVIIIs. The under 19s overcame a slow start to the season, and at the time of writing sat sixth on the ladder with the same return as the seniors – six wins and eight losses. The veterans had a solid year, but also missed out on finals action.

Capably MCd by senior player Ben Doherty and supported by the Old Scotch Show Band, the annual dinner dance auction night, held on Saturday 11 August at Leonda, was an outstanding event. The club’s final pre-match luncheon was held on Saturday 25 August prior to the game against De La Salle, with former Hawthorn premiership player Colin Youren (’57) as guest speaker. As Great Scot went to press, we were hoping to host the lunch in the refurbished clubrooms and to conduct tours of this wonderful development, which was due for completion by the end of September.
