Words: Tim Ward

After completion of 19 Rounds of a long 22 round Season, Scotch Old Boys Soccer Club (SOBSC) are within touching distance of creating history with both Seniors and Reserves holding top spot on their respective ladders and both only a matter of points away of securing their respective championships. With just three games left, all at their grass-free home ground of Gardiners Creek Reserve, SOBSC hold all the cards. Both the Seniors and Reserves remain 5 points clear of their nearest rivals Ashburton and Caulfield respectively and don’t have to play any of the top 4 opponents in the run home, so destiny is in their own hands. Scotch Seniors picked up a priceless 0-0 draw against promotion hopefuls Keysborough on Saturday 18 August in a game they were lucky to walk away with a share of the spoils.

Back Row (from left to right): Nick Bond, Andrew Alford, Dave Fielding, Tim Ward, Andrew White, Anthony Truong, Nick Marton, Steve Whately, Brad Whitaker. Front Row: Eamonn Beamish (Coach), Chris Jewitt, Daniel Giesen-White, Stuart Robinson (Captain), Pietro Cosenza, Todd Mitchell. Front Right Corner: Doug Baillie, Adam Greaves. Absent: Tom Benson, Jimmy Jewitt

As a group, Scotch Old Boys SC provides a club for players of all ages and abilities and has proven it is strong and set up for a big future. Never before has it been able to win the Provisional League Division 2 championship and so this squad has the chance to make history by lifting the trophy that will represent the greatest achievement the club has managed to muster. All three teams are as much a part of that as the Seniors and we look forward anxiously on the coming month as the 2007 Season concludes. With the club’s proposed move to HA Smith in the coming years, the club is surely heading in the right direction. GS
