Old Scotch memories fill Leonda

Four hundred and fifty Old Boys and guests enjoyed a fabulous evening of fellowship, frivolity and fun at this year’s OSCA Annual Dinner, held at Leonda on Friday 29 May.

Dinner convenor Peter Findlay, OSCA Executive Director Tim Shearer and OSCA Events Coordinator Robbie Gustke are to be commended for the outstanding success of the dinner. The food and wines were top class, and the venue was excellent. The oldest Old Boy present was Sir Archibald Glenn (’29), who recently celebrated his 98th birthday.

Leigh McGregor’s ‘slanchy va’ celebrated the haggis most appropriately. Then followed a musical interlude by the talented Cardinals singing group, after which School Captain Nathan Su ably proposed the toast to Scotch. Responding, the Principal Mr Tom Batty spoke most amusingly and endearingly about his first year at Scotch.

The Hon Michael Wooldridge (‘73) proposed the toast to guests, in which he pointed out that Melbourne had always been Australia’s education capital, and our Governor is an acclaimed scientist.

In his response, Victorian Governor Professor David de Kretser AC spoke passionately about men’s health issues. He said men can manage their health issues if they are prepared to exercise, control their weight – and maintain a good relationship with their GPs. ‘Take your own health seriously,’ he said, ‘because the health and welfare of your family depend on it’.

There was plenty of time for mixing with old friends before the witching hour brought the dinner to a close. GS
