Go-karting strings

WORDS: MR JAMES DE ROZARIO – HEAD OF STRINGS AND GUITAR PHOTOGRAPHY: MR ADAM MERANGE

It is always a great challenge for an orchestra to play in a new environment. The Henri Touzeau String Orchestra took on this challenge with great aplomb when they visited Haileybury’s Keysborough campus on 2 June.

Adjusting quickly to the new acoustic, the boys performed a fantastic variety of music including The Incredibles, Puttin’ on the Ritz and Rossini’s ever-popular The Barber of Seville.

Joining forces with Haileybury string players, the enormous string orchestra rehearsed Star Wars by John Williams. With more than 100 students on stage, it was a massive task to unite so many different styles of playing to form a rich, textured sound. Conducted by Ms Shanthi Charrett (Head of Strings – Haileybury), the boys responded with great enthusiasm to the music, as well as the generous morning tea provided by Haileybury.

Despite a morning of music-making, the boys of the Henri Touzeau String Orchestra still found enough energy to enjoy some laser tagging and go-karting at Sidetracked. It was a great opportunity for team building and socialising between the Scotch staff and students. GS
