The Old Scotch Tennis Club has booked its place in the 2010 grade 9 Tennis Victoria finals.

The team, consisting of Joey McKenna (‘08), James Hays (‘05), Scott McMurtrie, James Brownell, Alex Wallace-Smith, John Cade and Chris Backman (all Class of ‘03), have fought from having just one win after five games, to challenge for top spot on the sectional table in the final rounds.

After a tough start to the season, the team has turned its form around. Guided by some excellent performances from number one, Joey McKenna and strong support from Scott McMurtrie, Alex Wallace-Smith and John Cade, Old Scotch recorded big wins over Knox, Kings Park and Glenvale to get its season back on track. The boys backed these performances up with two hard-fought wins over Ringwood and Eildon Park respectively, to continue their good run and secure a finals spot.

So far it is a great result considering this is the team’s first year together in the Tennis Victoria competition. With a place reserved in this year’s finals, things are looking very optimistic for the club, and we hope the team’s strong form can continue well into the finals series.

The Old Scotch Tennis Club has increased its membership in the last year and encourages past and present players interested in social or competition tennis to come and join the club (visit www.oscanet.com.au for details). GS
