Our new Junior School Staff in 2013

Words: Kate Ikinger

Mrs Megan Bates, Mrs Susan Searle, Mrs Dinah Waldie

The Junior School is very happy to welcome Mrs Megan Bates, Mrs Susan Searle and Mrs Dinah Waldie.

Megan Bates is no stranger to Scotch College after teaching here in 2005 in a maternity leave position. Megan has also taught at Mill Park Heights Primary School and Caulfield Grammar School, Wheelers Hill.

A recipient of the prestigious Melbourne University Faculty Scholarship for high achievement in VCE, Megan has a passion for education and is herself a committed lifelong learner. Megan brings a range of skills to her appointment, including a strong sense of collegiality, an interest in education innovation and a broad range of interests that extends to the Warriors Netball Club, which she founded and currently captains and plays with twice a week. Megan joins the Junior Primary team as a Year 2 teacher.

Susan Searle has joined the staff as Head of Junior School Music while Mrs Jenni Thom is on maternity leave for 2013. Susan has more than 20 years' experience teaching music and is a member of the Kodaly Music Education Institute of Australia’s Victoria committee. She is currently the vice-president of the association.

Susan is committed to developing vibrant and evolving classroom programs while seeking to inspire young musicians to gain a lifelong aptitude in, and love for, music. Susan brings a wealth of ideas and expertise to her new appointment and is a very welcome addition to the staff.

Mrs Dinah Waldie has joined the Education Support staff to develop and teach the Junior School’s enrichment programs. Dinah completed her Master of Education (Constructing Knowledge) focusing on gifted education, and is the leader of the Boroondara Gifted Network.

A teacher for many years, Dinah’s history includes teaching at Ashburton Primary School since 1991, where she ran the visual arts program and coordinated enrichment programs, and where she is held in high regard by her colleagues, students and the school’s parent body. As an expert teacher with many years' experience, Dinah brings to her new role a great depth of experience and understanding, both about the field of enrichment, and about how children learn.
