Success in Science Olympiad

Words: Dr Atit Bhargava – Head Of Physics, Chair Of Science

Scotch boys achieved remarkable success in the 2012 Science Olympiad national qualifying examination.

(From left to right) Jamie Tadgell, Dominic Canale, Nicholas Liu, Sam Banks, Elton Lee, Ryan Lange, Michael Zhan, Eric Leung (all Year 12).

In total, Scotch boys received 10 high distinctions (five in Physics and five in Chemistry), 18 distinctions (seven in Chemistry, nine in Physics and two in Biology) and nine credits.

Four Year 12 students (two each for Physics and Chemistry) were placed in the top 70 students in Australia in their discipline, and were invited to participate in a Summer School over the 2012/13 summer holidays at Monash University, from which the Australian team will be selected.

These students are Nicholas Liu and Eric Leung in Chemistry, and Elton Lee and Michael Zhan in Physics. Elton has also been selected as part of an eight-person team to represent Australia at the Asian Physics Olympiad being held in Indonesia in May. We wish all of the boys well in the program, and congratulate them for their successful participation in the Science Olympiad.
