Swim team steps up to podium

Words: Mr Ryan Nolan – Teacher-In-Charge Of Swimming

In 2013 the Scotch College Swimming and Diving team achieved its first top three finish in more than six years at the APS finals in March.

After finishing fourth for the previous five years (albeit by a reducing margin each year) there was a feeling in the team that the podium finish drought was over, especially since the team had an 8-1 record in the lead-up meets, and at the all-schools competition earlier in the season several Scotch College records were broken.

Congratulations to Dante Negri (Year 7), Benno Negri, Sam Durrant, Christian O’Nians and Winston Ta (all Year 9) who all broke APS records; and to Leo Hurley and Gianni Gallucci (both of Year 12) on their excellent leadership as Co-Captains of the team in 2013.With a diving team made up primarily of Year 10s and below, and in light of all the swimming records coming to Year 10 age groups and below, there is certainly optimism for an exciting next few years.
