Film Society: Something for everyone at film society screenings

Are you a film buff who enjoys seeing an eclectic mixture of old and new foreign and local films, dramas, comedies and musicals? If so, the Old Scotch Film Society almost certainly has something to offer you.

The society has operated continuously since 1975, showing 15 films a year in the comfort of the Fraser Smith Theatrette in the Lithgow Centre at Scotch. We thank the school and its Maintenance Department for installing handrails on the stairs in the theatrette, which are a great help to our members.

Screenings commence at 8pm on various Tuesday evenings during school terms, except during the cooler winter months when three Sunday afternoon matinees, commencing at 2pm, are held. We call them ‘Winter Warmers’, and a light afternoon tea is served after each screening.

Term 1 2015 started with four vintage movies, which were audience requests. These ‘golden oldies’ undoubtedly included great actors and stories. However, while outstanding films of the past continue to have great appeal, subsequent screenings will include more recent releases.

The society’s Term 2 film programme is available on the OSCA website. Go to www.oscanet.com.au and click on ‘Clubs/Film club’, and then ‘Coming events’.

The society was delighted recently to support the School’s Media Department with funds to purchase new camera equipment, replacing obsolete units, and we look forward to viewing the students’ work.

The society’s annual subscription is $35 per person. Membership is open to anyone over 18 years of age who is a past Scotch student, a relative of present or past students, staff, and employees of Scotch College and friends.

For more information, please contact the membership officer, Malcolm Shepherd (‘54) on 9596 3049 or email malcolmshepherd11@gmail.com.
