Excitement builds as Centre for Science opening approaches

Excitement is building at Scotch as the date for the official opening of the Sir Zelman Cowen Centre for Science — to take place on the school’s birthday, Thursday 6 October — draws ever closer. Please keep this date free: all members of the Scotch Family are invited to attend the opening from 6.45pm onwards. Site tours will be conducted after the opening ceremony concludes.

We very much look forward to welcoming you on the evening to celebrate this momentous commitment to the school’s future.

Meanwhile, progress continues to be made with the Centre for Science, as it moves into the final phases of construction. In August the last touches were made to the stone fins along the northern and sothern sides of the building.

Most notably, the stonework on the eastern side of the building now proudly displays the Scotch College coat of arms.

At the time of writing paving work was soon to begin, while on the rooftop paving was well underway, with various plant rooms and equipment having been commissioned, and the photovoltaic glass roof panels were ready for installation. Internally classrooms, laboratories and teachers’ areas were nearing completion.

In addition, the forecourt canopy works were ongoing; the staff areas on all levels were being fitted with joinery and floor coverings; the operable vertical louvres were close to installation; and the western facade of the glass curtain wall was all but complete.

We have been working hard to ensure there is consistency in the appearance of the donors’ board, and the way our donors are recorded. The final product will be a splendid tribute to the generosity of the Scotch Family.
