OLD SCOTCH HERITAGE CLUB MEMBERS WITH OSCA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR SCOTT MONTGOMERY (’85, RIGHT) AT WESLEY.

Since World War II, when Scotch and Wesley College shared Scotch’s facilities, the schools have maintained a congenial relationship. This has been expressed in a number of ways, including reciprocal invitations to alumni functions and the annual Scotch-Wesley Golf Day, held in May this year at Victoria Golf Club on 13 April. Distinguished Wesley Old Collegians Geoffrey Blainey AO and Graham Samuel AO have been guests of honour at OSCA Annual Dinners.

In 2016 Wesley is celebrating its 150th anniversary, and members of the Old Scotch Heritage Club thought it timely to visit Wesley’s archive. A devastating fire in November 1989 gutted Wesley’s historic central quadrangle, and destroyed not only its library, offices and classrooms but also its valued archives. In rebuilding the school, an important goal was to enable students to explore the school’s history and people.

‘We were taken with the fact that the school’s archive collection is located adjacent to the library, and incorporates interactive display technology,’ commented Heritage Club secretary, Ian Kerr (’61). ‘This enables the school’s history and the lives of its former students to be easily accessed by students.’
