$100 000 raised for Chitulika

2016 Chitiluka

The Rev Tim Costello received a cheque for $105 148 to go towards our partnership school in Chitulika, Zambia. This was as a result of two years of planning and fundraising, with boys competing enthusiastically between houses and form groups to see who could raise the most. Many set themselves challenges and went without technology or food, others walked to school while one boy carried around a bucket of water. The school vice captains from 2015 and 2016, who initiated ideas and encouraged the fundraising, presented the cheque.

The money will enable improvements at Chitulika Secondary School to be made, including the building of an ablutions block, which Mr Costello said was fundamental to the education of the children there. Mr Costello said in raising this money, Scotch boys were challenging poverty and making a difference.

The Principal of Chitulika Secondary School said, “It will be great and respectful having a modern ablution block for the students. There will be great improvement among the girls on the class attendance, absenteeism will be minimised. We truly thank you for your kindness and love you have for this school!”
