2017 Foundation Day
Scotch celebrated Foundation Day with an assembly for boys in Years 4-9 held in the Memorial Hall, which particularly remembered the contributions made to school and country 100 years ago.
In the evening, the Foundation Day Concert in Hamer Hall included Sibelius' Violin Concerto (3rd Movement), Chaminade's Concertino for Flute and Orchestra, Shostakovich's Sinfonia for String Orchestra, a Fanfare and Cloudburst by the Symphonic Wind and arrangements of 'In the Mood' and 'Birdland' for Show Band. The choirs sang 'The moon is distant from the sea', 'Joshua fit the battle of Jericho', 'O my luve's like a red, red, rose' and 'I'm a-rollin'. The popular Military Band and Pipe Bands provided drum sequences as well as rousing tunes. For many the massed singing is a highlight and this year the boys of the school sang excerpts from Carmina Burana as well as some spirituals and, of course, the school songs.
