2019 Reconciliation Week
At the end of Reconciliation Week, Mr Jim Poulter from the Class of 1959, addressed the school in assembly. Jim’s family has formed close relationships with aboriginal families over several decades in the Yarra Valley. His work as a social worker has included setting up the Aboriginal Liaison Service within Social Security Department and establishing the Aboriginal Affairs Section of the Victorian Premier’s Department. He spoke about the path to reconciliation and how understanding was important. He stated that first hand experience with aboriginal people was critical and he also encouraged boys to rise to their civic responsibililty.
The Scotch Indigenous Program has three strands: The Indigenous Partnership Program, the Indigenous Scholarship Program and the Tiwi College Partnership.
This year the funds raised through the 24 Hour Hike were being donated to the Indigenous Scholarship Program. The committee presented a cheque for over $30,000 to the school. Scotch works with indigenous community leaders to identify boys who have the capacity and family support to thrive at Scotch. The funds raised enable this program to continue.
