Autumn Concert Season 2016

Autumn Concert 2016

The Autumn Concert Season provided the opportunity for the talented Scotch musicians to display their talents to an appreciative audience. On the Thursday evening, a Year 10 boy, who was awarded his LMusA with Distinction last year, gave a spirited performance of the 3rd movement of Max Bruch’s 1st Violin Concerto, supported by the School Symphony Orchestra, who then went on to entertain with the ‘Die Fledermaus Overture’ by Johann Strauss. The College Choir provided a tranquil and beautiful rendition of John Rutter’s 'Look at the World' before a more up-beat version of 'Blue Skies'. The blend in the Chamber Choir unified the sound in ‘How can I keep from singing?’, the poignant ‘Weep No More’ and ‘Pemulwuy’. The Symphonic Wind band combined with the Choir for John William’s ‘Hymn to the Fallen’ and also played ‘Iditarod’ from ‘Portraits of the North’. The Academy String Orchestra played with precision the St Paul’s Suite by Gustav Holst and the Show Band swung with ‘Body and Soul’ and ‘Absoludicrous’ in the lead up to their Mount Gambier trip.

On the Wednesday evening, the Ted Joyner, Intermediate and George Dreyfus bands, the Intermediate Orchestra and Henri Touzeau String Orchestra, the Morrison Street and Monday Big Bands and the Cambiata Choir all performed.
