Autumn Concerts
Boys in musical groups across the senior school performed in two delightful concerts in the Ian Roach Hall. On Wednesday 2nd May, the Ted Joyner Band, Intermediate Concert Band, George Dreyfus Band, Intermediate Orchestra, Henri Touzeau String Orchestra, Cambiata Choir, Morrison Street Big Band and the Tuesday Swing Band played various works from the New World Symphony, Skyfall through to some spirituals.
On Thursday 3rd May a talented young pianist impressed with his dexterous playing of the 1st movement of the Rachmaninov 2nd Piano Concerto and this led to a movement from the Tchaikovsky 5th Symphony with the Scotch Symphony Orchestra. The Academy String Orchestra was precise in its execution of Wiren's Serenade, before the Symphonic Wind played a rousing march. Stage Band and Show Band picked up the beat, including a rendition of Stevie Wonder's 'Isn't She Lovely'. The large College Choir sang the peaceful 'I lift up mine eyes to the Hill', followed by the jazzy 'Chatanooga Choo Choo'. The Chamber Choir rounded off the evening with Palestrina, an arrangement of Shenandoah and an aboriginally flavoured 'Waltzing Matilda'.
