Awards in Mathematics 2017

About 1,000 Scotch boys participated in this year’s Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC), with 16 winning prizes, being in the top 0.3% in their division. Three boys in Year 8, two in Year 9, four in Year 10 and one boy in Year 11 won prizes.

Special mention was also made at a recent assembly noting the success of two individual boys in Mathematics:

In Year 11 Tommy won a prize in the Australian Maths Competition and also was awarded a Silver certificate in the Australian Mathematics Olympiad (placing him in the top 25 nationally). 

In Year 8 a boy gained an Honourable Mention in the Mathematics Olympiad Competition, was awarded a Bronze certificate in the Senior Maths Olympiad Committee contest, was placed 2nd in the Junior Division in the Melbourne University Maths Competition and in the Australian Mathematics Competition was awarded a Prize and a Medal (presented to only 2 or 3 boys in each state). Having attended the Mathematics Olympiad Selection School in April, he is attending the Mathematics Olympiad School of Excellence in November.
