Launch of Chitulika Challenge

The Scotch Vice-Captain addressed the school at assembly, encouraging the boys to raise money to support Chitulika, a school in Zambia that Scotch has partnered for several years through World Vision. His speech is below:

Boys, I introduce to you the Chitulika Challenge. The Chitulika Challenge is a weeklong event, where boys will complete a challenge of their choice. You will even be able to choose the duration of your challenge throughout the week. Boys may give up furniture for 2 days or perhaps technology for 3 days. This event is running in week 5 of this term so boys may even elect to complete the traditional 40-hour famine, which happens to fall in the same week.

The other aspect of the Chitulika Challenge is that we will be holding different fundraising events throughout the week – so stay posted for those updates.

We decided that we wanted to maintain our strong and lasting relationship with Chitulika School in Zambia. World vision has allowed us to do just that and I’m happy to announce that all funds will go towards installing wifi, toilets and a generator for Chitulika School in Zambia.

By chance we were lucky enough to be born here in Australia and again by chance these young kids across the other side of the world were born in Zambia. It’s no ones fault, but in the comfortable world we live in, it becomes so easy to ignore a problem so far away. Where you’re born and under what circumstances should not define you, deprive you of any opportunities that others have, nor should it limit your potential. Education is the only thing that can break this cycle. That’s what we’re all here for, an education. In a position of privilege, I think it’s only right to help those who are less fortunate. At this school, we have the means to make that difference but we need to prove to ourselves that we also have the will, the will to give these children an opportunity that will change their lives forever.
