National Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week is a time to learn and share the journey of Indigenous and Non-Indigenous Australians working together to learn about our history, culture and achievements and promote the challenges which still face us as a country. Throughout the week, the Aboriginal flag will fly at Scotch beside the Main Oval.

Mr Aaron Clark who is the Indigenous Program Manager for AFL Victoria and also mentors some of the Scotch Indigenous boys, spoke at a school assembly. Three of our Indigenous boys also shared their reflections.

A Year 11 boy said:

"As a young proud Yorta Yorta man, I'd like to talk to you about what reconciliation means to me. I believe it is about bringing white and black Australia together as one, but also to educate and feel open and willing sharing our cultures with one another.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, just like any humans, are all different. We are not all dark skinned or know how to do traditional dances, but our connection to our history, culture and land is something that we all share and cherish. These beliefs share common themes with the values of our school, centred on country and the advancement of learning, and for us boys to be a part of Scotch College is important to the communities which we represent."
