Prefects installation

2019 Prefects Installation

At a senior school assembly, which focused on the installation of the new school prefects, the school Vice-Captain addressed the boys and staff stating that he believes Scotch is a healthy environment that fosters excellence and personal growth in its students and the wider community.

He encouraged the boys to engage in the sampling platter of opportunities offered at Scotch, to ignite interests into passions, and he assured them they would enjoy their years there.

Scotch’s tradition of assigning the office of prefect extends back to 1904 when it was first established by Principal William Littlejohn in recognising the “power of imitation, conscious or unconscious […] the informal education that boys give to each other”.

The Vice-Captain hoped that the prefects would take on the duty to hold themselves to a high standard in order to exemplify the best values of the school—and never to be more than an equal to their peers. He said that the ‘power’ given to them is that of voice—articulating the sentiments of all students and putting any initiatives into action in order to reflect those sentiments to the best of their ability—and, in that, to actively promote change and growth in the school community for the better.
