Scotch College Choir

This is the largest of the choral ensembles at Scotch with a current membership of 140 singers in Years 7-12. Entry to the choir is by audition at Year 7 level, with boys reauditioning each year as their voices change and they move to the Cambiata Choir or lower voice parts.

Major performances include:

  • Foundation Day Concert
  • Autumn Concert
  • Scotch Choral Concert
  • Scotch Carols Service

In addition there will be other performances where such opportunity arises. These may include school assemblies or performances in the wider community.


Scotch College Chamber Choir

The Chamber Choir is the most senior choral ensemble at Scotch College and performs a range of a cappella and accompanied music 4-6 tenor & bass parts. The choir tours regionally, nationally or internationally every few years and a high level of vocal and musical development is expected from chamber choir members.

Entry to the Chamber Choir is by audition and it is expected that members will also be taking individual voice lessons.

Cambiata Choir

This Cambiata Choir is the newest of the choral ensembles at Scotch and is intended for boys with changing voices – mostly in Years 8-10. Boys’ transition to this choir when their vocal range no longer suits the treble repertoire needed for the College Choir, and perform repertoire more suited to the adolescent changing voice. It gives boys the opportunity to work on more complex part singing but still allow their “new” voices to transition and settle. Boys will move back to the College Choir tenor and bass sections when their voices have finished the transition (usually year 9 or 10).

The Cardinals

The Cardinals is the most senior small vocal ensemble at Scotch and has five members drawn from years 11 and 12. The popular ensemble sings a wide range of close harmony repertoire including barbershop and vocal jazz arrangements.

Entry to the Cardinals is by audition from members of the Chamber Choir.

Major performances include:

  • House Chorals
  • Scotch Choral Concert
  • Jazz Cabaret
  • Valedictory Dinner
  • A wide range of school events and social functions

Year 11 Vocal Ensemble

The Year 11 ensemble is a small group of singers that wish to explore the challenges of simple close harmony and small group repertoire including barbershop, doo-wop and vocal jazz arrangements. The ensemble usually numbers 8-12 members but is unrestricted and designed to offer interested singers the chance to explore a wider range of music than is possible in the larger choirs.

Entry is generally unrestricted, but a certain level of music reading ability and vocal competence is required.

Major performances include:

  • Scotch Choral Concert
  • Music in Miniature

In addition there will be other performances where such opportunity arises. These may include school assemblies or performances in the wider community.


Year 10 Vocal Ensemble

The Year 10 ensemble is a small group of singers that wish to have a basic introduction to small vocal ensemble singing. The ensemble usually numbers 8-12 members but is unrestricted and designed to offer interested singers the chance to explore a wider range of music than is possible in the larger choirs.

Entry is generally unrestricted, but a certain level of music reading ability and vocal competence is required.

Major performances include:

  • Scotch Choral Concert
  • Music in Miniature
