Pipes and Drums

Considered by many to represent our Scottish heritage, the Scotch College Pipes and Drums holds a special place in the Scotch community. The band occupies a prominent and colourful place at school events and is the current Victorian and Australian Champion school pipe band.

Pipes and Drums has band members ranging from Years 5 to 12, which provides cross-age group activities.

The band has recently undertaken several tours of Scotland, representing Scotch at the very top level of competition. In 2014 the Scotch ‘A Band’ achieved fourth place in the Juvenile grade at the World Pipe Band Championships – the highest placing ever achieved by an Australian school pipe band. More recently in 2019, the Scotch ‘C Band’ won the European Championships in the Novice Juvenile grade – becoming the first Australian school band to win a major UK competition.

With over 100 boys in the program ranging from beginner to advanced, we have three Scotch pipe bands.

  • Scotch A Band – consists of boys in Years 10 – 12
  • Scotch B Band – consists of boys in Years 9 – 12
  • Scotch C Band – consists of boys in Years 7 – 10
