Academy String Orchestra

This is the most senior of 4 string orchestras at Scotch College catering for all violin, viola, cello and double bass players.

This ensemble caters for the most advanced players in the school and includes approximately 50 musicians.

Admission is by invitation or requested audition.

Major performances* include:

  • Foundation Day Concert
  • Autumn Concert
  • Summer Proms Concert
  • Scotch Strings Concert
  • Regular workshops with other Melbourne schools

 

*There are often performances at school assemblies, other formal occasions within the school or in the wider community.


 

Intermediate Orchestra

This orchestra caters for students generally in Years 9 and 10 who play the violin, viola, cello and double bass as well as brass, woodwind and percussion. Some more advanced students in Years 7 and 8 may be invited to participate or asked to audition. 

This ensemble is a full symphony orchestra and often has more than 80 members. It performs a wide range of repertoire including traditional orchestral works as well as more contemporary compositions such as film scores.

The group offers some elementary training in symphonic playing and acts as a pathway into the Scotch College Symphony Orchestra (SCSO).

Major performances* include:

    • Autumn Concert
    • Spring Concert
    • Scotch Strings Concert (string players only)
    • Occasional workshops or concerts with partner schools.

Henri Touzeau String Orchestra

This orchestra caters for Year 7 & 8 students who play the violin, viola, cello and double bass. The orchestra is open to all players learning either within or outside of the school program.

This ensemble includes a wide range of players in the school and includes approximately 60 musicians.

Major performances* include:

      • Autumn Concert
      • Melbourne Schools’ Strings Festival
      • Summer Proms Concert
      • Scotch Strings Concert
      • Biennial workshops with other Melbourne Schools
