Walter Benjamin BEAVER

BEAVER

Walter Beaver was born on 7 February 1876 in Northcote, Victoria. His parents were Benjamin and Margaret (née Guilfoyle) Beaver. He attended Scotch in 1892. His father, Benjamin Beaver, was said to be one of the first students at Scotch, or the ‘Academy’, in 1851.

Walter was a Church of England clergyman when he enlisted on 5 July 1915 at Melbourne. According to his service record he served with the rank of private in the: 1. Depot Battalion; 2. Australian Army Medical Corps; and 3. 11th Battalion.

Walter died on 25 August 1915 at Prahran, at the Alfred Hospital. He was 39 years of age.

Service record

Walter Beaver enlisted in 1915 with the goal of working in the Medical Corps. After five weeks’ training in the Showgrounds camp at Flemington, he contracted cerebral-spinal meningitis. He died two weeks later. His death is acknowledged as a war death by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and in the Australian War Memorial Honour Roll.

Walter Beaver is buried in the Footscray Cemetery, Melbourne.
