Alexander MURRAY

MURRAY

Alexander Murray was born on 25 August 1880 in North Gailoch, Ross and Cromarty, Scotland. His parents were Hugh and Barbara (née Mann) Murray. He was a mathematics teacher at Scotch from 1907 to 1908. 

Alexander was a teacher when he enlisted in Scotland. He served in the Scottish Horse with the rank of Captain.

Alexander died on 14 August 1917 at Ypres, Belgium. He was 36 years of age.

Service record

A short death notice in The Argus of 1 September 1917 said that ‘Alex.’ had been well-known in Melbourne, ‘having been for some years master at Scotch College and at Haileybury College.’ His epitaph was ‘Their Glory Shall Not Be Blotted Out’.

Alexander Murray is buried in the Menin Road South Military Cemetery (Special Memorial 8), Belgium, though the exact location of his grave is unknown.
