Will Sutherland selected in Australian under 16 squad
WILL SUTHERLAND (YEAR 10)
After impressive performances in the School Sports Australia under 15 cricket tournament in Darwin in June, Will Sutherland (Year 10) has been selected the Australian under 16 representative cricket squad.
Described by Cricket Australia as ‘a tall, lanky presence, much like his father’ (James Sutherland, now CEO of Cricket Australia, who played four first-class matches and nine one-day matches for Victoria), Will impressed with successive innings of 33 and 39 in Darwin.
Cricket Australia described Will’s batting as showing ‘both sides of his game, at times being ultra conservative and then showcasing his ability to counter-punch ... He has had a taste of first grade cricket in Melbourne’s east and is quickly rising through the ranks.’
Will joins 16 other promising young cricketers in the Australian squad, including Austin Waugh, son of former Australian Test Captain, Steve Waugh.
