Scotch College announces the appointment of Mr Hamish Tadgell as the 20th Chairman of the Scotch College Council, following the retirement of current Chair, Mr Alex Sloan.

The School is deeply grateful to Alex for his generous and purposeful leadership of Scotch over the past four years. It is a highly demanding role, that Alex has served with great integrity and commitment. We thank Alex for his significant service and look forward to the continued contribution of Alex and his wife Karen as valued members of the Scotch Family.

The Council and Executive warmly welcome Mr Hamish Tadgell to the position of Chair. Hamish brings a depth of both not-for-profit and corporate experience and a longstanding personal association with Scotch. He is an Old Boy of the school (1973 to 1985) and parent to Young Old Boy William (’21).

Hamish was appointed to the School Council in 2013 and has been Chair of the Finance Committee since 2015. He has served on the Risk, Remuneration, Fundraising and Executive Committees during his time on Council, and also as a Director on the Old Scotch Collegian’s Association (OSCA) Council from 2012 to 2017. He has also been Chairman of the Victorian Scottish Heritage Cultural Foundation since 2013.

Hamish has over 25 years’ experience in the finance and investment industry in Australia and the UK, working in investment research, strategy and funds management.  He is currently Head of Australian Equities and Portfolio Manager at SG Hiscock & Co, having previously held the role of Chief Investment Officer, Investment Research for Australia and New Zealand, and as an Executive Director, for Goldman Sachs. Hamish was a Trustee of the Goldman Sachs / JBWere Superannuation Fund and has also served on the investment committees of a number of not-for-profit and charitable organisations.

A new strategic vision will be launched for Scotch College in 2024, which builds on the rich traditions of our past while introducing extensive new learning opportunities for our boys. The Council and Executive thank Alex for his tremendous legacy in developing this vision and look forward to Hamish’s leadership in bringing the vision to life.
