Centre for Learning

Foundational Statement

Foundational Principle: The inherent value of each individual

The inherent value of each individual is the central precept to the functioning of the Centre for Learning. The Centre for Learning provides individualised and small group learning opportunities for boys in a support environment targeting a strength based learning profile. Boys can access trained staff across a range of different specialities: academic support, extension studies, library services and psychological services. Working closely with staff allows boys to move towards developing an understanding of themselves as a learner, build the teacher student relationship and foster growth towards greater personal self-awareness.

Foundational Question: How did the world evolve to be as it is and how might it be made to evolve for the greater good?

Diversity enriches our society and inclusion and participatory practice enhances the learning experiences of all. This enshrines the practice of the Centre for Learning staff and boys who base their teaching, research and service around these principles. An aim to improve the quality of life and learning for people with disabilities is paramount and is evident by the use of empirically validated practice; maintaining legal, professional and ethical standards; and modelling collaborative pedagogy which promotes both support and difference. Strong and confident growth is more readily achievable when young men have an awareness of global citizenship and their own personal impact on the world.
