Year 8 Curriculum

The Year 8 academic program is designed along very similar lines to that of Year 7, enabling boys to consolidate and extend their understanding and skills in each of their core subjects, namely English, Mathematics, General Science, History, Geography, Languages, Music, Art, Drama, Design and Technology, Christian Education and Physical Education. In Year 8 most students continue with both languages from Year 7, although they may also choose to study one language and an additional History and Geography elective.
The Middle School Curriculum continues to evolve in Year 8 and develops boys as thinkers, learners, members of communities, and thoughtful and independent users of information. Developing an awareness of Digital Citizenship and improving study and time management skills are just two elements of this dynamic program. In particular, much more is expected of the boys in Year 8 with regard to how they organise and keep up with daily lessons, with the way they maintain and look after their property and how they behave both in class and towards their fellow pupils. By Year 8, boys are expected to take a more mature and responsible approach to their studies. Our Pastoral Care programme focuses on resilience and respectful relationships. Their Outdoor Learning experience continues with the theme of teamwork and resilience and builds on respect for others.
Year 8 boys remain in their Form from Year 7, however, the boys are grouped in different combinations for their academic classes. Their Form Teacher oversees their academic care over the two year period.
